Being “served” as the unquestionable boss, can get very convenient. However, an effective, efficient boss is always open to a “no” once in a while. Your team can multiply your power as a leader only if each member is stronger than you in her or his area. While a viewpoint might run counter to your own opinion, your job as the boss is to understand that perspective fully. Be open to welcoming a different view but encourage the team to stick to the decision once it is taken. When you can convince, motivate and carry the team with you, you are being the right boss every time. That is a healthier proposition for the organization than everyone making polite noises while simply waiting to agree with whatever the boss has to say.
