Come, let’s talk of tomorrow
Our home quarantine ended on Saturday, March 28, 2020. All clear medically. Even with the lockdown, Geeta and I did not feel anything was different. If at all, it was a learning experience for both of us.
I learnt that what matters is how you react. Outside there may be some celebration or a calamity. It is your choice to stay calm. Negative emotions, bad feelings and anxiety are all contagious and spread faster than the corona virus, even without any tangible medium.
During the past fortnight, there were many calls from my friends and clients. All of them were anxious about us. Some of them were very worried themselves. What will things be like? How do we cope?
You are. You can. Those are the only two things that matter. Try to get better in in what you do. Put in the extra effort to get there.
We are seeing remote working at an unprecedented level. This will change how we work and live in future. Focus will be on people: employees and customers.
Professionals will have to identify skills that are not dependent on their location. They will have to do it themselves. The government cannot help; nor can your employer or your customers.
Good times, like bad times, do not last. Good equations do. What are you doing now to maintain trust and loyalty? That will count when the locks open and things begin to look up.
Some asked me if I was enjoying my vacation. In fact, I was perhaps busier than before, learning new skills and taking a long hard look at what I wanted to continue doing and what I did not. Should I complete that book in the making? Or is it a better time for another book? Of course, I also gained some amount of proficiency in video conferencing tools.
Above all, I am grateful for this at-home spell for the opportunity to mentor myself. I looked deep within myself. I may not be any wiser. But I am equipped to be calmer, happier. I am confident that I can continue to learn and be of help wherever I am located.
Enough about the virus. Let us exchange notes on the new tomorrow?
