  1. Capable of gathering and analyzing data to arrive at critical decisions and forecasts.
  2. Should anticipate and promptly report problems. Must work with the global team for speedy resolution.
  3. Must formulate contingency plans to sustain morale and productivity, should a situation necessitate local curtailment of office- or plant-based activities.
  4. Should stay abreast of developments in businesses all around to quickly spot growth and diversification opportunities.
  5. Has to make efficient use of technology to manage multiple locations within the country, and to submit timely reports to global centres, without the need to travel. Must ensure utmost cost efficiency.
  6. Will be responsible for strict compliance with Indian laws and regulations applicable to facilities and personnel.
  7. As the Indian face of the global organization, must project a correct, responsible, and positive image of the company.

Please send us your profile within 10 days. We plan to conduct our first round of video interviews in the second week of June 2020, when we would like to discuss a specific subject: How do you see the Indian and global manufacturing scene on the first anniversary of the pandemic. We would expect you to join us by end of August 2020.

This ad is imaginary, but the situation is not. Business would continue to be as global as it ever was, but the people of the world would rather keep to themselves. As former favorite locations are struck off the list, India would be in demand again. But the old Country Manager would have to quickly adapt or give way. No flights, no trips. Stay put but make sure everything everywhere works fine.

He will have ample power, and technology will extend his reach. He may skip the travel to cut the ribbon to open the new factory. But he will be clear about expectations from the new facility and how it will complement the next two units in the pipeline.

He will distil big data and harness AI. He is always ready with real-time intelligence that is intelligible and actionable.

The new Country Manager may work from home. But he will need to be at home and in control whatever the situation, wherever.
